The Roku Streaming Stick does not have built-in VPN or MediaStreamer DNS functionality. To use a VPN connection on your Roku, you need to connect your Roku to a VPN-enabled virtual router or router. This tutorial will teach you how to do just that.

Note: If you want your Roku Streaming Stick to stream content from U.S. channels, you need to configure your Roku with a U.S. Roku account before you connect it to the virtual router or router (see Step 2).

Make sure your Roku is properly set up for U.S. content

Skip this step if you already have a U.S. Roku account.

On your VPN-connected computer or mobile device, go to https://owner.roku.com in your browser and set up a U.S. Roku account.

Set your country to United States.

Enter an American ZIP code with 5 digits. Examples: 90210, 10005, 92803.

Factory reset your Roku by pressing and holding the Reset button on the back of your Roku for 15 seconds.

When your Roku starts up again, log in with your new U.S. Roku account.

Screen mirror from your devices to Roku

Mirroring replicates your device’s screen on your TV. The simplest way to use your VPN to stream to a TV is to mirror your device to your Roku.

Note: Before you follow these steps, you have to set up your Roku and connect it to the same network as your device.

Mirror your Android device to Roku

Note: This method may only work on some Android devices and not others.

  1. On your device, open the ExpressVPN app.
  2. Tap the location picker, then tap your desired location (e.g., The United States).
  3. On your device, open a streaming app (e.g., Netflix).
  4. Select any show or movie.
  5. Swipe down on any screen to access Quick Settings. Tap Screen Cast. Your device screen should now be mirrored to your TV.

Tap "Screen Cast."

Mirror your Windows PC to your Roku

  1. Click the Notifications icon at the bottom right of your home screen.
  2. Click Project > Duplicate.
  3. Choose your Roku connection.

Mirror other devices to your Roku

You may not be able to directly mirror your iOS, Mac, or laptop devices to your Roku, due to incompatibility between different systems. To work around this restriction, you can download a third-party app that supports iOS or Mac mirroring to Roku.

For laptops, you can download a third-party extension on your Google Chrome browser for mirroring. However, you will only be able to mirror your Google Chrome browser’s screen.

Note: ExpressVPN is not affiliated with any third-party mirroring apps. Use them at your own risk.
